30th Birthday Fun

Saturday August 27th I turned 30. It was a fantastic party. My friends helped me celebrate at the beaches with a fun Laid Back BBQ. All the presents from my friends were thoughtful and lovely. I baked 2 cakes and Lauries mum made me a giant cookie.

I had the most amazing birthday I ever had. Thanks everyone I will never forget it.

Rescue of a Blind American Goldfinch

Wadey and I were rollerblading on Sunday and I saw a little bird standing stock still in the middle of the road. Wade had already rollerbladed right by it but it didn't move so he assumed it was dead. I didn't think it was dead but I wanted to move it from the middle of the road whether it was dead or not. I put my hand underneath it, to pick it up, and it hopped right into it. This little guy was sooooooo cute but his eyes weren't open so we figured he was blind and that is why he didn't move when we skated past him. Wade suggested we bring him to the nearest wildlife sanctuary. So I handed the birdy over to him and he rollerbladed all the way back holding the little guy, who managed to escape a couple of times and make Wade chase him. Well to make a long story short we ended up taking the bird to the wildlife sanctuary and they confirmed that his little eyes were fused shut. If they can fix his eyes and help him get better then Wadey and I signed up to be a part of the bird's release. It was an exciting and fun day and I am SO glad that we managed to help a helpless creature.

On a side note......on Saturday we were out walking around the neighbourhood and we saw a one eyed cat....It was really cute and yet weird at the same time....The spot where it's left eye should have been was just a slight indent in the head but it was all just normal and furry...no scar or anything, what I mean by that is that it looked like the cat never had a left eye....blindness seemed to be a theme this weekend.

Too close to home

Alicia Ross is missing. She just dissapeared. I know her because she works on the same floor as me. This has been one of the top stories in the news lately. They were hoping to find her withing the first few days but she has been missing since Tuesday August 16th and outlook has become grim.

I keep asking myself how does this happen? How does a whole person just vanish into thin air? Why did this have to happen to this sweet young girl?

If you could be anyone who would you be?

If you could be anyone in this world, besides yourself, who would you be?

Well if I wasn't myself and going out with my (extremely hot boyfriend Wade who I LOVE in a "Tongue down the throat" kinda way), I would be Gwenyth Paltrow so that I could be married to Chris Martin and have his baby Apple. I am a huge fan of his....he is absolutely gorgeous and so talented it is unreal.....I have never been one to have celebrity crushes but Chris Martin is just so delightful that I think I would be absolutely tongue tied if I met him.

Falling from the sky

This is so SAD it made me cry when I read it....some people think I am stupid because I try to avoid watching the news and reading the papers because I am so sensitive and I just feel so OVERWHELMED with sadness when I hear about all these poor people and their families.

It seems that this is the summer of the plane crash....First there was the Air France crash with, thankfully, no fatalities and just these past few days there have been 2 more plane crashes and unfortunately these passengers were not so lucky. May we take a moment of silence to remember the victims of the Cypriot Boeing Helios Airways flight that crashed in Greece this weekend:

GRAMMATIKO, Greece - A Cypriot plane full of vacationers slammed into a mountainside north of Athens on Sunday after at least one pilot lost consciousness from lack of oxygen, killing all 121 people aboard, more than a third of them children.
The cause of Greece's deadliest plane crash appeared to be technical failure - resulting in high-altitude decompression - and not terrorism, authorities said. A transport official said the 115 passengers and six crew may have been dead when the plane went down.
Helios Airways flight ZU522 was headed from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Athens International Airport when it crashed at 12:05 p.m. near Grammatiko, a scenic village 25 miles north of the Greek capital. Flaming debris, luggage and bits of human remains were strewn across two ravines and surrounding hills.

and in today's horrible crash in Venezuela:
PARIS French air officials say 153 passengers from Martinique died in the plane crash in western Venezuela today. The West Caribbean Airways flight was headed to the island from Panama. The mayor of a town that lost several residents says, "There are children who are orphans" today.

What is this world coming to?

I read this article today and it just amazing me that people can allow an addiction to take over their lives so completely. I can't understand how anything could consume someone's focus so completely? Where are these people's priorities? Here is the article:

South Korean man dies after nearly 50 straight hours playing computer games

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A 28-year-old man died of an apparent heart attack after playing computer games non-stop for 49 hours in an Internet cafe, police said.
The man, identified only by his last name, Lee, collapsed Friday after having eaten minimally and not sleeping. He had refused to leave his keyboard while he played the battle simulation game Starcraft, police said.
Lee, a resident in the southern city of Taegu, taken to hospital but died after a few hours, due to what doctors believed was a heart attack, police said.
Lee had been fired from his job last month because he kept missing work to play computer games.
The games are enormously popular in South Korea, home to professional gamers who earn big money through sponsorships and television stations devoted to broadcasting matches.

I am training the lovely new girl Jennifer (she is from Glasgow, Scotland) and it has been nonstop busy since Wednesday.

I am so tired it feels like I have been working an extra long week instead of an extra short one. The good thing is that Jennifer is super sweet, a quick learner and has an awesome accent. I love training her because I get to listen to her talk all day. She is also super duper tall.

It is hard because we are sharing a pc and phone so I haven't really had internet access. There is a bright side to everything....back to work...
